JOB TITLE:    Manager on Duty

JOB SUMMARY:  Responsible for overseeing all Lodge departments while department managers are gone for the day.  Ensure guests are comfortable and satisfied.  Assist in any department that requires help.  Tour facility nightly for security purposes and safety issues. Complete Manager on Duty report

REPORTS TO:  Director of Rooms

PRIMARY DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:  Working knowledge of Skytop’s Policies and procedures. Understanding the functions of the Lodge and Inn along with departments to include Food and Beverage, Sales, Front Desk, Concierge, Reservations, Housekeeping, Bell Stand, Security, Activities and Recreation and some knowledge of Engineering. Some knowledge of the hotel operating PMS systems.


SKILLS REQUIRED: The ability to problem solve quickly without a lot of managerial support.   Must possess excellent guest relations, communication, and writing skills.  Able to strategically create plans and execute.  Must possess a valid driver’s license.


PRIOR EXPERIENCE: Previous hotel / resort experience a plus.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:  Must have thorough knowledge in all aspects of hotel operations and each specific department.  Must have a thorough knowledge of safety and emergency procedures.  Basic knowledge of computers.

PERSONALITY REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to conduct operations in a rational manner and make decisions expediently.  Must possess strong interpersonal skills and be a good communicator.  Must be outgoing and people-oriented.  Must project a professional appearance and possess the ability to speak in public.  Must be flexible with regard to work schedule.


  1. Working with departments on a daily basis.
  2. Manage all communication devices on site such as 2-way radios.
  3. Communication with all employees during shift.
  4. Tour of resort during shift.
  5. In charge of and attend AM / PM stand ups.
  6. Observing staffing levels and controlling guest demands in outlets.
  7. Resolving guest complaints.
  8. Completing and MOD report daily / nightly.
  9. Respond to emergency situations as needed.
  10. Communicate to General Manager and Executive Committee members as needed.
  11. Communicate to department leaders as needed.
  12. Resolve any employee conflict as needed.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Must be able to work long hours and several days in a row.  Must have the ability to stand on your feet for extended periods of time.  Must be mobile and able to directly observe the workplace in all areas.  Job requires driving throughout Skytop property.  Must have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, if necessary.  Sitting for extended periods while using computer.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work takes place in all areas of the Lodge and the Inn at Skytop and throughout Skytop property.  This includes working inside and outside of the facilities, with some time spent in other areas of the hotel and grounds as well.  Schedule includes days and evening shifts, weekends and holidays.

HAZARDS ENCOUNTERED:  Normal hazards associated with office and operational work; exposure to slip and fall hazards associated with slippery floors, inclement weather on the property.  Normal hazards associated with lifting.  Typical hazards associated with driving.  Some exposure to chemicals.  Possible exposure to blood borne pathogens.
